"I felt like I had one last chance," says former WWE Champion about his title match against Randy Orton

A former WWE Champion has revealed his true feelings about his iconic match against Randy Orton from 20 years ago. The star in question is WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley.

At Backlash 2004, the WWE Universe witnessed one of the most brutal outings in the history of the promotion. Randy Orton and Mick Foley battled in a Hardcore match at the event, with Orton's Intercontinental Championship on the line. Foley put the star over that night.

While speaking with WWE about the infamous match, Mick Foley recalled feeling it was his "last chance." Check out his full comments below:

"I felt like I had one last chance. I'd played it safe at 'Mania, which is fine, but you don't get into the WWE Hall of Fame by playing things safe and being fine. And I thought I've got this one last chance. I've got this amazing young athlete, and we're in a situation where he can help me have the type of match I need to have to feel complete, and I can help him take that next step up the ladder. And it was a big step, but I wanted to do something special," Foley said. [0:22-0:55]

Foley's outing with Randy Orton wasn't his last match

Mick Foley got several more chances to prove that he still had it following his match with Orton.

At WrestleMania 22, he lost to Edge in a Hardcore match. Like Orton at Backlash, this match turned Edge into a legit star.

Foley put over a long list of big names during his illustrious career as a pro wrestler. He put over Triple H in the early 2000s, and their Hell in a Cell match at No Way Out 2000 is considered one of the greatest matches ever. Foley also put over The Undertaker on multiple occasions in the 1990s.
