Tough to maintain No. 1 Test Cricket ranking

Friends with 2-0 series win against Sri Lanka, India are now No. 1 Test team. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on Sunday, described India rising to world number one status in Test cricket as a dream come true conceded that it would be a tough job to maintain the top spot.

Now it would really difficult for MSD’s Team India to maintain the status as Australia did for 8 years as India will be playing only two Tests in the next six months (against Bangladesh in January next year). And down the line the trinity of Indian batting- Sachin, Dravind and Laxman will not available for service and it may be their last test match on Indian soil as next test match in India will be after World Cup i.e in 2011. Expectations are set, with confidence flying high and fans expecting no less than wining every match, will Team India sustain the pressure and be the ruler of Test cricket.

Fear not, as Future Tour Program (FTP) has been prepared and India will be playing only two test match series. India will tour Bangladesh for two Tests in January, and after playing countless ODIs and Twenty20s, will meet New Zealand in November for three Tests. “A scheduled three-Test series against world No.2 South Africa has been cancelled, denying all cricket supporters of a major series that would have had significant impact on the rankings. Instead, the Proteas will play five one-dayers.”

India certainly play very less no of test matches thanks to IPL , Champions league etc. BTW India ranked 1 in tests , 2 in odi & 6th in T20 . India cold able to maintain its no1 position of T20 for mere 2 years & goes to from 1 to 6 , while Australia maintain its dominance in test matches even before from the beginning of ranking systems. So lets see how India defends this one though because of less no Test matches being played this ranking doesn’t seems to change frequently.

While India will be playing 2 test match series, on the other hand South Africa will be playing 3 test match series and Australia will be playing 4 Test match series. So the ranking could keep on changing very frequently.

personally i feel there are more areas left where some serious introspection has to be done …..

fast bowling .. or rather bowling department is one serious concern … not to take away anything from sreesanth , khan and co but still I feel there is some room for improvement there….

also I feel there should be players available for our next generation especially of the likes of cheteshwar pujara, ajinkya rahane and co…
they shuld be made to play more serious cricket…..
