West Indies retain Pride and should Thank Aussies for it

Thank God for Australia. It is one country that keeps interest in Cricket alive and in all forms of cricket. Its not as much there dominance of cricket over last decade thats teh reason. On the contrary that was predictably boring. Its two other uniquely Australian attributes. One is Holier Than Thou attitude at which the aussies are champs fair and square. The other is Foot in the Mouth Syndrome which every Australian cricketer, Past and present , sports writers, commentators, and cricket loving public at large has mastered over a century.

Aussies

Aussies

An Aussie showing dissent was only displaying his passion, no matter if that irritates a seasoned umpire like Benson to call it quits. Aussies think when they are sledging they are only involving in sportsmanship. When they get the taste of their own  medicine , they are quick to call others  Obnoxious Weeds. When a decision goes against them they cite out all kinds of flaws in the system. When they benefit from Such largesse( Sydney Test against India ,2008-09) , they claim these are  human errors  that will even out in long run .Paradoxially every Cricketer in Australia talks about integrity. The world definitely would love to know what it means in Aussie dictionary.

No one will deny both these qualities have added lot of spice to the proceedings over the years. Without these was it possible an Indo -Aus series overtake Indo-Pak series in terms of intensity and rivalry. Why South Africa reserves it best only for Aussies. What makes Ashes such a passionate affair. If it werent the taunts and insult heaped on these teams from all sides may be there would not have been the miraculous case of a team coming up trumps after following on in Calcutta. No chasing down of 434 runs in a One day Match. No Flintoff show in Ashes

Teams playing against Aussies realize that they are  not playing against the XI but also  against scores of former stars, who have all turned astrologers post retirement if not partisan commentators on TV, the sports editors and the entire Australian Media which in terms of shrillness will give the Indian Media circus a good run for its money.

Sample the ridicule West Indies were subjected to after their dismal showing at Gabba last week. Yes they lost by an innings and more. Big Deal. So did SL against India around the same time. A cacophony was raised asking for the series to be cancelled. The futility of playing against the Lazy players of WI. A boring summer. a white wash predicted. Wonder what Kim Hughes has to say now. He of all people ,perhaps the only Captain to be removed mid series after  consecuitive losses to WI in 80′s actually demanded cutting Off WI from test Family. Thats why the fight and resolve shown by the WI in Adelaide is so Heart Warming. They were expected to fold up inside  three days.  Foot in the Mouth too soon?

Aussies were clueless when the Big Benn chimed, when Gayle took charge for once and the special Dwayne BRAVO show. WI can be permitted for thinking this draw is sweeter than any victory. Its been a long and painful year for them. Maybe with some confidence back this team may play some gritty feraless cricket they are capable of. They have lost the Frank  Worrel Trophy but not their respect yet.

This current australian team has lost its aura of invincibility , but make no mistake they are still the team to beat. They wont vacate the throne without a fight. They still stake claim for the No.1 team in world as also the bad boys of crciket. A Doug Bollinger  boorish tantrums would certainly make Mcgrath and Warne proud. Welcome to the team mate.      WI cannot get complacent. Aussies have lost their last two tests at the WACA  in  perth. Lets see how these teams do now.  The show by WI here has certainly enhanced the way they will be viewed now. What say Mr. Hughes.
