Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) is very happy to announce that it will be supporting 10 year old Badminton player Lakshya Sen. Lakshya, who hails from Almora district, Uttarakhand, currently trains at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bangalore. Badminton legend Prakash Padukone hailed the upcoming badminton star, “Lakshya is a magnificent talent. His strokes, court coverage and temperament are amazing for a 10 year old. I have never seen a youngster at that age play so well.” CEO of OGQ and former India Hockey captain Viren Rasquinha outlined the plan for the Sen. “We have been very careful about our selection process. At 10 years, Lakshya is by far the youngest athlete we are supporting. We must ensure that he enjoys the game and does not feel the burden of expectation.” Incidentally, Lakshya’s father, Mr. C.L. Sen is also a badminton coach with the SAI in Uttarakhand.
Padukone added about the youngster, “OGQ will be grooming Lakshya for the 2020 Olympics right from now. Besides guiding his training at the PPBA academy to ensure that he learns the right techniques, we will also be sending Lakshya for a few international age group tournaments abroad where he will be accompanied by his father or a coach.” OGQ also announces that it will be supporting 18 year old boxer Devendro Singh who fights in the 49 kgs weight category and is India’s youngest member of the Men’s boxing squad that is going for the AIBA World Boxing Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan later this month. Rasquinha elaborated on the light flyweight boxer, “Not too many people have seen or heard about Devendro. But he is a world class talent. He performed incredibly well at the recent World Championship trials and we see great potential in him. He is one for the future and may even surprise many people at the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championship 2011 itself.”
Devendro, who hails from Manipur is the younger brother of one of India’s top women boxers, L Sushila Devi. . He took his first steps into boxing under coach Ibomcha Singh and trained alongside boxers like 5 time World champion Mary Kom, CWG Gold medalist Suranjoy Singh. Major achievements of Devendro include Best Boxer, Federation Cup, Goa, 2011, Silver Medal, Asian Junior Championships, Iran, 2010 and a Bronze Medal, World Military Games, USA, 2010, his first senior competition at the senior level. Olympic Gold Quest is a Not for Profit Foundation that supports the training and preparation of 30 sportspersons across 5 individual Olympic sports viz. Badminton, Boxing, Shooting, Archery and Athletics. The mission of OGQ is to help Indian athletes win Olympic Gold medals.
