Wojciech has been at the heart of our team since producing an impressive debut vs Manchester United in December 2010. Although we lost that game due to a pathetic header from Park, Wojciech made some fine saves and went on to play against the likes of Barcelona and Tottenham in the same season.
This year, Szczesny has had a few ups and downs from conceding 8 at Old Trafford to saving a £20 million penalty vs Udinese. Every time I read interviews of Wojciech, I can’t help but laugh at his banter. Anyone remember him saying how much he “hates” Spurs?
Now, of course, I’d like another keeper to provide competition for the Pole as Fabianski and Almunia are simply not good enough, preferably someone like Tim Howard or Shay Given.
But let’s not forget, Szczesny is still only 21 years old! Brad Friedel is 42 and still going strong. SO if you think about it, Szczesny can still be our #1 keeper for the best part of 15 years.
However, we do have a rising talent in Damian Martinez whom I’m a big fan of. The Argentine can surpass Fabianski as Wojciech’s back up next season and even get some games in himself. But will a player of his potential stay if he’s not getting any games? I’ve seen a recent interview on Arsenal.com with him saying how he’d be willing to go on loan.
The majority of Arsenal fans are happy with Szczesny and no one in this country can deny his talent, he was even linked to Barcelona earlier on in the season. However, I do have one bit of criticism for the Pole, being that he’s not the greatest at saving free-kicks; conceding two against Manchester United, one against Sunderland, and so on.
The 6’ 5” Pole is still #13, but I feel come August 31st when we have to register our players, he will officially be the #1 at Arsenal Football Club.
My rating for the Pole this season: 7/10

that guy’s got mental strength to go strong despite conceding 8 at Old Trafford.
