The final that everybody has been waiting for will take place on Sunday as the world’s top two players reached the finals of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters Series event.
World no. 2 Rafael Nadal beat Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-3, 6-4 in the second semi final and will take on world no. 1 Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final.
Nadal will be gunning for his eighth consecutive title in Monte Carlo on Sunday while Djokovic will be aiming to beat Nadal for the eighth consecutive time.
“My feeling is I have much less to lose than him. I have everything to win,” commented Nadal. “That’s the most important thing. That’s the only positive thing about losing seven times. The next matches, you only have to win. You go to the match knowing that the normal thing is lose but trying the best to change situation. That’s what I’m going to try.”
Nadal will also be hoping to win his 20th masters series title – he currently shares the record with Roger Federer at 19.
“It is always difficult to play against Gilles,” commented Nadal. “He is always smart on the court and he knows how to play tennis. I’m very happy. It was a very difficult victory for me. So it’s fantastic being in another final.”
