Top seed Gilles Simon moved into the quarter-finals of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy on Thursday in Bucharest beating Israeli Dudi Dela 6-4, 6-2. Simon, ranked No. 12 in the world, is a two time former champion at this event.
He won here in 2007 and 2008.
Italy’s Fabio Fognini reached his first quarter-final of the year by beating fifth seed Marcos Baghdatis, 7-5, 7-6(4). Fognini will take on fellow Italian and sixth seed Andreas Seppi, who beat Germany’s Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-2, 6-3.
Matthias Bachinger, ranked no. 130 in the world, scored a huge upset beating top 40 ranked Viktor Troicki 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(2).
Seventh seed Lukasz Kubot also advanced into the quarter finals beating local wild card Marius Copil 6-3, 6-3.
