WWE Divas Championship Match Added to Extreme Rules

On tonight’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown!, during the Nikki Bella/Alicia Fox match, Michael Cole announced that, at this Sunday’s pay-per-view, Nikki Bella will defend her newly-won WWE Divas Championship against the former champion, “The Glamazon” Beth Phoenix.

Currently, Phoenix is suffering from a storyline ankle injury. WWE are continuing the story, having announced that, although Phoenix is still hurt, she’s considered healthy enough to compete, and will invoke her rematch clause this Sunday.

This comes as somewhat surprising, considering earlier reports that Kharma would likely be taking the title from Nikki Bella, who along with her sister Brie, is at the end of her current WWE contract, with most reports stating the twins have not been re-signed. Considering that the match was just announced and the big event is still two days away, there could be some last-minute changes and/or additions to the match come this Sunday.

Despite the championship match, Beth Phoenix is still playing up the injury storyline and the plan is for her to continue to do so a while longer, which likely means she will not be taking the title back this Sunday. With this storyline and the Bellas still expected to leave WWE after either Sunday or Monday, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this match and angle.

Kharma is still expected to take the Divas title and completely dominate the division, leading to an eventual match or series of matches with “The Glamazon”. Because of this, I am predicting that Kharma will still be involved at the PPV this Sunday. Although this is just a prediction and not set in stone, I am predicting that Phoenix winds up removed from the match when doctors decide that, despite their original diagnosis, she is still not ready to compete. From this point, Nikki makes a challenge for anyone else in the Divas division to step up and accept a championship match. To her surprise, Kharma makes her long-awaited return to the ring, and proceeds to destroy the twins in a very short and devastating fashion, taking the title and putting the Bellas “on the shelf”, as a way to write them off television.

Of course, this is only a prediction, but seems a likely scenario. The other possibility is Nikki successfully defending the belt against an injured Phoenix, only to lose the belt the next night on RAW to Kharma. Although the first scenario seems a little more likely, either one are possible scenarios and would be a great way to get the title off Nikki as the Bellas exit the company.
