Kagawa: On United radar

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa has revealed that he met Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson amidst speculations linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

Sir Alex was present at the German Cup final where Kagawa scored as his side went on to beat Bayern Munich 5-2. Later, it was being speculated that the United manager might have been scouting more than one Dortmund player, with the likes of defender Mats Hummels and striker Robert Lewandowski were also touted as reported transfer targets.

However, Kagawa said that he ‘had some good words’ with the 70-year-old Scotsman but refused to go into any further details. The 23-year-old midfielder said:

“It was good that I was able to meet him in person and talk.”

Kagawa has spent two seasons at the German club and has 29 goals and 15 assists in 71 games to his name. Dortmund have ended up as Bundesliga champions for two consecutive years since Kagawa joined the club from J-League club Cerezo for a meager €350,000. He refused to sign a contract extension with Dortmund and has been on the radar of big European clubs including Arsenal, AC Milan and Chelsea. Kagawa added:
“I want to think hard before making my decision. I want to choose a team where I can take on challenges.”
