“Super, Super Frank, Super, Super Frank ,Super, Super Frank Super Frankie Lampard”
How many times have heard this chant? For this man, who has a cult status among the supporters, he is the perfect example of all things Chelsea. He is on top of the list of highest scoring midfielders in the history of the English Premier League, ahead of the likes of Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and Paul Scholes. If you are a Chelsea fan, tell me if there was ever any time that a surge of adrenaline didn’t pump you up, as Lampard got ready to take a free-kick, which he would eventually slot into the top corner of the net leaving even the greatest of goalkeepers flabbergasted?
This English lad is not really known for his creativity, but is known for the way he controls the game and decides its rhythm. Has a powerful shot from just about anywhere in the field and definitely one of the most under-rated midfielders out there, he is definitely less spoken about when it comes to midfielders such as Kaka, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Alonso, Schweinsteiger, Gerrard, etc. An example of his true worth was demonstrated with his excellent performance in this season’s Champions League final, when he and John Obi Mikel took control of the midfield and broke up dangerous attacks from Bayern Munich.
Frank Lampard has been instrumental in Chelsea’s success and was at his prime under Jose Mourinho. At the age of 33, he has won it all with important goals in the run up to the Barclays Premier League, the FA Cup, Carling Cup and the Champions League. He has been the anchor right at the center of Chelsea, in all their glorious triumphs and it would be hard for any fan to envisage Chelsea without him. Regarded by pundits and players alike to be one of the best in game, as he has proved himself in the best league in the world and never shown even a hint of nervousness in big games. With the likes of Lucas Piazon having their skills brushed up in the youth academy and the signing of Eden Hazard, it might just be that the club is preparing for a time without Frank. Whatever might happen as of now he is irreplaceable, for all that he has done for Chelsea.
What makes him a true club legend is his devotion and love for the club. No matter how bad he becomes, the fans would never want to let go of him, just like they did not want to let go of Drogba. But as good things always come to an end, Frank would one day eventually decide to call it a day. And then what happens? Will it be the end of an era for Super Frankie? But wherever he may be, Frank Lampard will definitely be in our hearts.
A toast, to one of the greatest midfielders of all time and definitely a living legend for the Chelsea fans.
