It’s always nice to see a player from our youth programme make it to the top of the club. This year, Manchester-born Danny Welbeck has certainly done that – not cementing his place in the first team squadbut as a member of the starting eleven. During last season’s impressive performances Danny formed an impressive relationship with Wayne Rooney, and he’s said he owes a lot to his striking partner.
“He’s fantastic and I owe Wayne a lot,” said Welbeck, whose impressive performances in the season just gone by is likely to see him start for England in the European Championships with Rooney’s absence. “He has been a terrific friend and a brilliant help to me. We have really forged a great partnership and he is amazing during a game. I’m so lucky he wants me to do well and is always trying to advise what’s best for me.” Welbeck also said how useful Rooney was in modelling how to break into both the United and England first teams, saying “He knows what it’s like as a young player coming through in the (English) Premier League and with England.”
