HALLE, Germany (AFP) –
The ATP grass-court tournament at Halle could expand to include a women’s WTA event in 2014, organisers announced on Tuesday after a visit by Australian WTA Tour Supervisor Pam Whytcross.
“These are superb facilities, very well kept, where the players never have far to travel and get about,” said Whytcross after a guided tour in the presence of tournament director Ralf Weber.
Whytcross visited the 20th edition of the tournament in north-western Germany after attending Roland Garros and en route to another pre-Wimbledon warm-up WTA tournament in Eastbourne, England.
Weber added that they would “not need to change anything just to host a women’s tournament”.
This week’s event features world number two Rafael Nadal of Spain as well as Swiss Roger Federer, who is bidding for a sixth title in his 11th participation here.
