The Indian 3×3 teams have won all four of their matches on the first day of the 3rd Asian Beach Games in China. The game’s format is a little different from regular basketball. You have three players per team playing in a 10 minute game. The game is a lot more fast paced and the balance is shifted a little towards skill vs athleticism, since the open court transition game is taken away and athletic teams can no longer just rely on their superior physique to get easy baskets end to end.
It seems to be working for India. The men’s team beat Vietnam 21-4 and China 18-14 and the Women’s team beat Thailand 17-12 and Philippines 14-9. We are undefeated thus far and our next matches are tomorrow vs Bangladesh men and Nepal women.
Last year at the South Asian Beach Games (SABG) in Hambantota, Sri Lanka (pic below), Indian men and women won gold medals in the 3×3 basketball held there as well.
