The McLaren team has revealed that it will bring ‘noticeable’ updates to the German Grand Prix. Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh said that the sidepods are visibly changed and hopes they will help the team to spice up their rather disappointing performances.

Whitmarsh: “The sidepods from the front to the rear are quite different, so you will notice those. There are other bits and pieces that the sharper eyes will see and clearly there are some parts that are transparent to the naked eye. That is the main area of modifications and it is reasonably noticeable.”

However, the team has been primarily struggling with their tire strategies and the Team Principal admitted that they will need to focus on that at the Hockenheimring. He said: “I think for everyone, not just McLaren; trying to understand and exploit the tires correctly is proving quite a substantial challenge. So I think keeping ourselves focused; seeking to eliminate mistakes; improving the performance of the car; understanding the tires and seeing if we can exploit them better are all top of our to do list.”
