Robin van Persie’s move to Manchester United could hinge on the Arsenal star being paid the same amount of money as Wayne Rooney.
The Red Devils’ frontman earns around £220,000-a-week at the moment while Van Persie has snubbed a three-year contract offer of £130,000-a-week from the Gunners. Van Persie would like to move to Old Trafford to add some more trophies to his sparse collection – his last trophy was the FA Cup in 2005 – but wants to match Rooney’s wages, according to sources.
Liverpool are poised to boost their transfer funds by offloading Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina. Aquilani, 28, who commands an annual salary of more than £6million, was left out of Liverpool’s squad for the final game of their North American tour in Baltimore as he discussed a £7m permanent move. He has spent the previous two years on loan at Juventus and AC Milan. The club are expected to step up their attempts to sign Swansea’s Joe Allen if the deal is completed.
Tottenham last night agreed a £36million fee with Real Madrid for Luka Modric.
The Croatia midfielder had already said he would join Jose Mourinho’s side but was waiting for the clubs to reach a deal. Madrid were reluctant to meet Spurs’ valuation but Mourinho wanted Modric as soon as possible. The deal will bring an end to a saga which began when the 26-year-old demanded a move to Chelsea a year ago.
Galatasaray are stepping up their bid to sign Dimitar Berbatov for Manchester United, sources have confirmed. The Turkish giants are ready to table a £5million offer for Manchester United’s Bulgarian striker, 31. The striker has faded away from first-team plans at Old Trafford over the last year or so and the move will come as a relief in a long battle for playing time. A record signing at United when he joined, Berbatov will make his way out as someone who never fulfilled his potential.

Van Persie is so greedy, Utd will never pay him that much.
