In the second practice most of the teams focused on heavy fuel long runs.
Out of all the teams, Mercedes looks the strongest on long and as well as on short runs. Michael Schumacher did some consisitent laptimes throughout the session and the only other team which looks to be challenging them are Ferrari. Fernando Alonso had a tough day with various mechanical failures but the race pace of Felipe Massa looked good and was on par with the Mercedes duo.
Mclaren team are also very close in terms of race pace and I expect a very tight battle for pole and for the race between Mercedes, Ferrari and Mclaren.
Red Bull and Lotus teams look reasonable in terms of race pace but are struggling to the top three teams in sector 2 and 3. The reasons for their struggle have been highlighted in my analysis of practice 1. You can read that here: Italian GP: Practice 1 Results and Analysis
Stay tuned for analysis from third practice and qualifying sessions tomorrow.
