The Sheru Classic Professional Championship, Asia’s only IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness) Professional League Event, will be held on 6th October at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. The event was launched in Mumbai in 2011 and after merely a year, it has been recognized as world’s third largest in the category after Mr. Olympia and Arnold Classic. This year, the Championship will witness the participation of some of the world’s best Professional Bodybuilders, including Phil Heath, Toney Freeman and Kai Green, as well as world renowned Professional Women’s Figure Athletes like Nicole Wilkins, Erin Stern, Heather Dees, Felicia Romero and Candice Keene. The Championship will offer a cash prize worth
$210,000 which is the third largest prize worldwide in this category.
Apart from the two categories – Professional Men’s Bodybuilding and Professional Women’s Figure – that were introduced last year, two new categories – Professional Men’s Under 212 and Professional Women’s Bikini – have been added to the competition this year. Moreover, the Championship has been awarded a TIER 2 status event for Olympia qualifier points; the points earned by the winners of Sheru Classic 2012 will help them qualify for the Olympia Championship 2013.
Alongside the main championship, Sheru Classic Delhi 2012 will also comprise of the Sheru Classic Health & Fitness Expo to be held over two days (5th and 6th October) at NSIC Grounds, Okhla. One of the features at the Expo will be a national level Power-lifting Competition to be held in association with the Indian Power-lifting Federation. The competition will witness the participation of 33 men and 33 women state champions and will offer a total cash prize of approximately Rs. 4.5 Lakhs to the winners which is the highest amount being paid in the Power-lifting category in India.
The event is being organized by Mumbai-based Sheru Classic Production Pvt. Ltd. – a company focusing on the Health, Fitness and Bodybuilding industry in India and is the brainchild of Mr. Hemant Aangrish and Mr. Sheru Harmeet Aangrish (India’s second Professional Bodybuilder). The
brothers plan to make Sheru Classic Asia’s biggest sports extravaganza over the next 10 years wherein they will be making it a platform for international sports persons across different categories like swimming, boxing, football, tennis, etc., to showcase their talent.
