Night Of Champions is a dumb idea for a PPV. Do you know why? Because every championship should be defended on every PPV, not just once a year. But, even though I hate the idea, I love the PPV. Night of Champions exceeded my expectations. Matches that no one really cared about ended up being amazing, and the main event was superb. Well, it’s that time again, and after being away for a long hiatus, I’m back and ready to tell you who shined at the PPV.
Best Match Award
The Best Match Award goes to the best match that took place at Night of Champions 2012.
This is an obvious choice. There was never any doubt that this match was going to be bad, but I don’t think anyone thought is was going to be as amazing as it ended up being. As much as some people like deny it, John Cena can wrestle. He just needs the right partner. So far, those partners are Edge, Shawn Michaels, and CM Punk. When given one of those three men, he will not have a bad match. It’s just a fact of life. The match was filled with near falls, new moves, amazing ring psychology, and a great finish that will no doubt lead to a Hell In A Cell rematch.
Best Feud Award
The Best Feud Award goes to the individuals who participated in the best rivalry that culminated or progressed at Night of Champions 2012.
Winner: CM Punk vs. John Cena
What happens when you have the two best talkers in the business face each other in an epic rivalry? You get Cena vs. Punk. Although there isn’t as much interest or momentum behind the feud as there was in 2011, this rivalry is far from boring and the promos it is giving us are top notch. What more can you want?
Best Diva Award
The Best Diva Award goes to the Diva who excelled the most at Night of Champions 2012 and the events leading up to it.
For the first time in a while, the winner of this award actually did something to earn it. Eve has been doing well in her role as Booker T’s assistant, and her character that plays is face but is really a heel, which is a nice change for the Divas Division. She also managed to capture the Divas Championship title at Night of Champions in what was a pretty decent match against Layla.
Biggest Loser Award
The Biggest Loser award goes to the individual who has failed the most at Night of Champions 2012 and the events leading up to it.
Winner (or loser): Cody Rhodes
Remember when we all though that 2012 would be the year of Ziggler and Rhodes? Well, it may be true for the former, but certainly not the latter. Cody Rhodes currently stands as the most terribly used Superstar on the roster. He is extremely talented, great on the mic, great in the ring, and has a lot of heat, but for some reason WWE wants him to lose every freaking match he’s in. Maybe 2013 will be the year of Rhodes.
The Best Superstar award goes to the individual who has excelled the most at Night of Champions 2012 and the events leading up to it.
Winner: John Cena
I’ll admit it. I have a little bit of an anti-Cena bias, and to be honest, CM Punk did a lot better in the match than Cena. So why does Cena win this award? Because he deserves it. John Cena stepped his game up at Night of Champions, doing things we’ve never seen him do before (suicide dive, german suplex). Add on the fact that he wrestled almost the entire match with a rolled ankle, Cena deserves this one.
