Indian star striker Sunil Chhetri made his league debut for Sporting Clube de Portugal ‘B’, in the Liga Orangina (Liga de Honra) in a 2-0 win against SC Freamunde on Sunday.
Sporting ‘B’ won the match courtesy to a brace by Ricardo Esgaio (52nd & 65th minute), and the Lisbon side is now ranked 2nd in the league table, with six wins out of eight matches. But Sporting could drop a spot in the table, if UD Oliveirense win their match later in the evening.
Sunil came on as a late second half substitute, and played six minutes in the away game at the Complexo Desportivo do SC Freamunde.
The India striker is making progress step by step in the new environment, and it is a positive sign to see him getting a few minutes in an official competition.
The expectations are quite high back home in India, but one need to be realistic and realize that Sunil will need time to improve on a daily basis, and patience is a key factor at such a competition in Europe.
So let’s keep on supporting Sunil and be part of this Indian dream in Europe!
