The year 2012 is unique in many ways. The year started off with Jenson Button winning in Australia. Then, we saw 6 different winners. Over this period, Fernando Alonso was definitely the most consistent, as he led the championship table for most of the season. The best part here was, Fernando did lead the championship, but he never looked like as ruthless as Michael Schumacher used to be during his Ferrari days.
The year belongs to McLaren and the Red Bulls. We have seen things go wrong for both teams here. For instance, Sebastian Vettel had to retire from one of the races, after leading for most of the race. A similar thing happened to Lewis as well. Going forward, we now have Vettel leading Alonso by 6 points. We can expect Fernando to be consistent over the rest of the season. However, I doubt whether the Ferarri will be able to out qualify the Red Bulls or McLarens. On one hand we have the cool Alonso, and on the other we have Sebastian Vettel, who can be brilliant on his day. But, when it comes to a crunch situation, he can falter, considering he so young.
In short, Sebastian should just try and finish the remaining races. He shouldn’t try to go for outright victories, as he may end up putting himself in trouble. In simple terms, he should just stay out of controversy over the next 1 month or so, and the rest will follow. The one thing in Seb’s favour here is that his rival Alonso does not have a fast Ferrari. Ferrari are known to turn things around. Let’s see if they can match the pace of the Red Bulls over the next few races. As stated earlier, if Seb can just finish all the races, considering his pace, he will definitely outperform Fernando. This will ensure a third title for Seb.
Fernando needs to rely on some Ferrari magic to help his chances of victory. The upcoming Indian Grand Prix has happy memories for Seb, considering he won the inaugural race. Therefore, Seb definitely has the upper hand going into the climax of this year’s F1 championship.
I just would like to wish both drivers all the best. I am really happy to see a Sebastian Vettel vs Fernando Alonso duel. I really disliked Fernando when he won 2 championships over Michael Schumacher. But then, I started respecting his driving skills. It is fair to say, Fernando is one of the most respected figures in F1 circles, and his fan circle is just increasing.
Talking about Seb, he is young, fast and very jolly. The way he is performing at the moment, I feel he can even better Michael Schumacher’s 91 race victories. I am comparing 2 drivers in 2 different eras here. Whatever be the case, Michael was very controversial in many ways. Sebastian should try and be a different driver. He should try and avoid controversy at all levels.
I look forward to some great battles in the upcoming races.
