Local Chandigarh Football Academy beat Patiala’s Dalbir Football Academy through a goal from India junior international Daniel Lalhlimpuia in the final of the Chandigarh Under-17 Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India football tournament played on Wednesday at the city’s Sector 17 Football Stadium. Numerous games in the tournament were one-sided due to the gulf of standard between participating sides with teams even scoring 20 or more goals against their opponents. The final was a close affair with the tournaments top scorer Daniel Lalhlimpuia with 19 goals clinching the trophy for CFA.
The Chandigarh Football Academy, as champions, received Rs 200,000 (2 lakhs) and a trophy, while Dalbir Football Academy received Rs 100,000 (1 lakh) and their runners-up trophy.
Punjab’s Mahilpur Football Academy finished third with a 3-1 victory against Gorkha Taining Centre, Shillong in the third place playoff.
