Cesc Fabregas: Staying at Barcelona

Cesc Fabregas announced in a press conference today that he is happy at Barcelona and will be staying with the Catalan club for the foreseeable future.

“I never had any doubt. It has cost me a lot to return to Barça and now I want to triumph here.”

“My dream has always been to play at Barça and nothing has changed. I’m very, very happy here and I never thought about leaving,” Fabregas was quoted as saying.

Several reports had suggested that Fabregas was unhappy at Barcelona as he was not getting the desired game time, and that he was being sidelined by other members in the squad.

Manchester United manager David Moyes had publicly declared his interest in the 26-year-old midfielder and the club had made two bids in order to lure the Spaniard to Old Trafford. However, Barcelona had rejected both bids stating that they were not interested in selling Fabregas, whom they consider an important part of the team.

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino said only a few hours ago that Fabregas would be staying at the club.

Now, with Fabregas himself confirming that he will staying in Spain, United will have to look elsewhere for a quality midfielder, with Marouane Fellaini looking most likely to make the move.
