Top five archers of World Cup 2014 – Recurve individual men

The 2014 Archery World Cup was the 9th edition of this prestigious event, which witnessed some world-class performance. Four preliminary stages of the tournament were performed at:

  • Shanghai, China
  • Medellin, Colombia
  • Antalya, Turkey
  • Wroclaw, Poland

American Archer Brady Ellison was the winner of the Men’s Recurve Individual. And there were also a few notable performances from the archers across the globe. #1. Brady Ellison (USA)

Brady Ellison, born in 1988, emerged as the winner of this year’s Archery World Cup. He has won for a record third time, beating Marcus D'Almeida, the 16-year-old Brazilian archer. Ellison has been consistently displaying outstanding performance, which has helped him remain at the top of the rankings since 2011.

In the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Ellison scored 664 in the ranking round and secured his place in the main event. He progressed to the second round. Though he also performed in the team event, but could not leave a mark in the minds of the spectators. In the 2011 Olympics, he secured his place at the USA Archery Olympic trials in Colorado. He had been a winner of 2010, 2011, and 2014 Archery World Cups. He performs with a pink recursive bow, which denotes his strong support for breast cancer research.

One of the youngest athletes of the present times, Marcus D'Almeida has left his mark in the Archery World Cup. He emerged as the winner of the Silver Medal in 2014 after losing to America's Brady Ellison in the final. D'Almeida, born in 1998, made his debut in the international premise in 2013. In 2014, he won three gold medals in the South American Games, smashing all the records of 1,440 rounds. He was Qualified for the World Cup Final as the second highest scorer and lost in the shootout in the final. He, the “Archery's Neymar”, as he is named for his amazing performance in the international premise, has won the silver medal as well as the heart of the archery enthusiasts around the world with his amazing performance.

#3. Rick van der Ven (The Netherlands)

Born in 1993, the young archer Rick van der Ven has already won immense praise for his performance despite his shocking exit in Medellin. He started archery at the tender age of 8 years. He was the silver medalist in the 2009 World Junior Championship in the United States. In 2012 , Van der Ven became the winner of the European Championship - Outdoor, both in individual as well as team events. In the 2012 Summer Olympics, Van der Ven competed and ended up at the fourth position. In this year’s World Cup, he also couldn't make it to the final, losing to the Brazilian Archer, Bernardo Oliviera. He is training in The Olympic Sport Center in Papendal and is studying Engineering Mechanics in Arnhem.

Florian Kahllund is 21 years (born in 1993) old archer who made his international debut just a year back, in 2013. In 2014, he won the individual title in Europe, which earned him the chance to compete in Archery World Cup 2014. He has won the gold medal in Antalya stage by playing with his spare bow when the bow he had chosen before had fallen apart while playing in the last end of matchplay.

#5. Oh Jin-hyek (South Korea)

Oh Jin-hyke, known for his distinctive technique in archery, not only represents his country, but is also a member of the Hyundai Steel Corporate team. He made his first appearance in 1999 for his team, but did not win any title. But in the 2012 Summer Olympics, he won the gold medal, which made him the man to look for in the arena. He was the first Korean Male Archer to win the gold medal individual in a prestigious circuit like Olympics. He also made it to the top three in the team event. From April, 2013 to June, 2014, he kept his strong footings on the number one place in international ranking. He won the gold medal in Men Individual Recurve in World Cup 2013. He is known to be the rebel among the archers of his time.
