World Archery Championships 2013: Indian men's recurve team takes 2nd place in qualifying

India’s men’s recurve team of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Kapil shot an impressive 3,983 points to finish 2nd behind runaway leaders Korea who had 4,057 points.

Individually too two of the three men made it into the elimination stage as Jayanta Talukdar finished 15th with a score of 1,331 points while Tarundeep Rai finished claimed the last qualifying spot in 16th place with 1,330 points.

The result marked a slightly better Day 2 at the World Archery Championships 2013 in Antalya, Turkey after the women had a disappointing time on Day 1.

The elimination stage in the individual events for both compound and recurve events begins on Wednesday while the team eliminations begin on Thursday.

Deepika Kumari was the only Indian woman to make it through to the eliminations in the women’s individual recurve while the team only managed to finish 12th and are likely to thus draw a top seed in the 1/8 elimination stage.

In the mixed recurve event the Indian team did well to finish 5th.

In the 1/8 stage of elimination, they beat Ukraine, who finished 12th, 149-140 to enter the 1/4 stage. But in the next round, the Indians shot a woeful 137 to lose out by two points to Chinese Taipei who went on to enter the 1/2 stage.
