A 56 member strong Indian athletics team to compete at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games

A 56 member Athletics team will take field representing India at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games to be held from 19th September to 4th October. This squad includes 30 women and 26 male athletes. Recent performances of some of the athletes at the Commonwealth Games and the Federation Cup and also the current form of a few players were considered during their inclusion in the team. Triple jumper Renjith Maheshwary, jumper Mayookha Johny, shot putter Omprakash Singh Karhana and all the three relay teams will undergo a final trial on 15th September in Patiala and will only be given the green light to join the squad based on a medal winning performance in these trials as decided by the selection committee.

Meanwhile India will look to win more gold this year compared to their 5 gold medal winning performances from the last Asian Games in Guangzhou which included athletes like Joseph Abraham, Preeja Sreedharan, Ashwini Akkunji, Sudha Singh, Mandeep Kaur, Manjeet Kaur and Sini Jose. India had finished 2nd in the medals table in that event with 12 overall medals.
