Rio Olympics organisers reveal final test event schedule

The city will stage 12 test events in the next two months as preparations for the first Olympic Games in South America move into their final stage.

April is the busiest month of the two-year test event calendar with eight competitions across 10 disciplines, organisers said on Wednesday, reports Xinhua.

Barra Olympic Park, the main venue cluster, will host seven events while another two locations will be tested for the first time, according to Rio2016.com. The program begins with weightlifting at Carioca Arena from 7 to 10 April and will be followed by shooting on 14 to 25 April.

The Olympic Aquatics stadium will be home to the swimming test event from 15 to 20 April while gymnastics will take place at Rio Olympic Arena on 16 to 22 April.

Other events scheduled for April are as the following: Paralympic swimming (22 to 24 April), fencing (23 to 27 April), water polo (25 to 29 April) and Handball (29 April- 1 May). 4 to 5 May will mark the last pre-Games event at Barra Olympic Park when Future arena stages goalball.

The Olympic stadium will be home to the final three test events - athletics (14 to 16 May), Paralympic athletics (18 to 21 May) and football (22 May).

The Rio Olympics will be held from 5 to 21 August and the Paralympics from 7 to 18 September.
