Russia found to be in breach of anti-doping codes: WADA

Russian Olympic Committee speaks at a press conference

Russia faced more trouble on Wednesday as the World Anti-Doping Agency(WADA) sidelined them and five other nations for breaching their codes. Argentina, Ukraine, Bolivia, Andorra and Israel are the other ountries which have reportedly breached WADA codes, according to BBC Sport.Earlier, the International Association of Athletics Federation(IAAF) had provisionally suspended the All-Russia Athletics Federation and banned all athletes from the country from participating in domestic events.Over the past few months, a number of doping incidents have come into light, and despite the IAAF taking stringent action ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, many countries have failed to comply with WADA and IAAF rules.Apart from the aforementioned nations, Brazil, Belgium, France, Greece, Mexico and Spain are in danger of being sidelined, and have been placed on a provisional watchlist. They are expected to meet strict guidelines before the start of the Olympics next year.

Countries that have breached WADA codes have failed to respond to the organization’s request for information on doping in their respective countries. Argentina, Bolivia and Ukraine in particular, have been found to be using non-accredited laboratories, which contributes to the breach of code.WADA has said that it will continue drug testing in blacklisted countries, but this testing would be carried out independently. These nations do not have any choice but to comply with the rules of the orgainisations and imparting harsher anti-doping rules for their athletes.Despite Russian athletes facing a ban, WADA technically cannot prevent athletes from "non-compliant" countries from competing in international events, according to the IAAF and International Olympic Committee(IOC).Russia is in a race against time to enforce stricter regulations and will need a new administration to curb the allegations of “state-sponsored doping”, as the IAAF describes it.
