A total of 240,000 Rio Olympic tickets sold in eight hours

The 2016 Rio Olympics, to be held from August 5 to 21 next year has garnered high interest from the residents of Brazil with around 240,000 tickets being sold in eight hours during the latest phase of the Olympic ticket selling reported The Hindu.

120,000 tickets were bought during the first hour, with sports like football, basketball and volleyball attracting the highest demand, Globoesporte a Brazilian newspaper said on Tuesday.

Over two million tickets have been made available to Brazilian residents on a first come first served basis in the third stage of the ticket selling process.

There was a high demand from states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Parana and Distrito Federal with residents vying for tickets.

The organizers said that tickets are still available for about 400 of 518 sessions. Residents of Non- Brazilian origin can buy tickets via authorized resellers in the country.The 2016 Rio Olympics will be the first ever Olympics to be held in South America.
