Sopot (Poland), July 23 (IANS/CMC): Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott warmed up for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by capturing gold in the men's javelin at the Janusz Sidlo Memorial meet here.

Walcott produced the fifth best throw of his career to land the spear 82.90 metres to eclipse his European competitors, reports CMC.

The runner-up, Poland's Lukasz Grzeszczuk could only manage a 77.63m throw while the third spot went to another Pole, Pawel Rozinski (76.46m).

The Trinidad athlete has bettered the 80-metre mark in three of his six competitions this season.

Walcott's personal best is the 84.58m effort that earned gold for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Last year, he came close to that distance, throwing 84.39m in front of his home fans to emerge victorious at the inaugural Twilight Games.
