The main draw of the Denmark Open Superseries Premier begins on Wednesday and the opening round just got all the more intriguing. Ajay Jayaram, who was set to face a qualifier in the form of Fabian Roth on Tuesday was promoted from qualifiers and will face a tough opening round match against World No.5 and fellow countrymen Kidambi Srikanth on Wednesday.
It's not just Jayaram who will have a tough challenge on his hands on Wednesday, but World No.8 Parupalli Kashyap will also have a task up his sleeves as he confronts former World No.1 Lee Chong Wei in his first round match.
Also in contention in the Men’s Singles will be HS Prannoy, who will take on Hsu Jen Hao in a late match on Wednesday.
The Women’s Singles draw seems a bit easier for India as the two contenders- Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu – will face Busnan Ongbumrungphan of Thailand and Maria Febe Kusumastuti of Indonesia respectively.
Saina, who is the top seed in the tournament, faced the same opponent in the first round of the Japan Open Superseries last month. After finishing runners-up at the Dutch Open Grand Prix, Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy will look to put forth a similar performance and hopefully go one step further as they take on the Great Britain pair of Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge in the first round.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, who recently dropped a place in the World Rankings to 12th, will also play the first round match against the pairing of Reika Kakawa and Miyuki Maeda of Japan, whom they defeated in the third round at the World Championships in Jakarta in August.
