Kidambi Srikanth gaining good momentum ahead of the Superseries Finals next week

India’s Kidambi Srikanth progressed through to the final of the Indonesian Grand Prix Gold after beating Anthony Ginting of Indonesia 21-13 21-19 in the semifinal stage of the competition on Saturday.

The opening game saw the Indian set the tone of the match almost from the start as he raced away to a 6-1 lead and then bolstered that advantage to a11-8 at the mid-game interval. He continued his dominance over proceedings after the break, racing away with the game to clinch it 21-13 and take a vital one game lead in the match.

The home favourite, however, returned strongly in the second game, leading for a large part of the game in the initial stages before Srikanth raised his game at the 8-8 mark to lead 11-8 at the break. He took the upper hand after the interval, winning 5 points straight to go 16-8 up before Ginting started to claw his way back into the contest, by chipping away with the points to gradually reduce the deficit.

However, Srikanth managed to hold his nerve and sealed the deal with a 21-19 game win to make it through to the summit clash, where he will face the winner of the other semifinal between Tommy Sugiarto and Wisnu Prasetyo in the final.
