2015 Korea Open Superseries: Parupalli Kashyap knocked out in opening round

Parupalli Kashyap lost in the opening round

After some good news coming in PV Sindhu, there was immediate bad news for India at the Korea Open Superseries as Parupalli Kashyap crashed out of the competition, losing 17-21 21-16 21-18 to Wei Nan of Hong Kong in the first round on Wednesday.

The opening game saw the Indian dominate proceedings as he won points at a stretch to win the opening game 21-17 and take a decisive lead in the contest. The second game onwards, though, the tide began to shift towards Wei’s side particularly after Kashyap had taken a 5-0 lead as the Hong Kong player clawed his way back into the match, chipping away with the points at regular intervals. But the tide shifted towards his favour at the 13-13 mark as he won points at a stretch to win the game 21-16 and take the match into a decider.

In the deciding game, Wei continued his surge after the 4-4 mark, winning points at regular intervals and putting pressure on the Indian even as tried to forge a comeback into the match. But his efforts proved to be futile in the end as Wei romped home to a 21-18 game win and with that sealed the match in his favour.

The loss is yet another example of the inconsistent form that has been on view from not just Kashyap but many of the Indian shuttlers in the year 2015. Just to think of it that Kashyap was the lone Indian to make it to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open last week and now he has been eliminated in the opening round in Korea is proof enough to show the varying pattern of results.

Final Scoreline- Wei Nan beat Parupalli Kashyap 17-21 21-16 21-18
