2015 Korea Open Superseries: PV Sindhu beats Ratchanok Intanon to move into second round

In a big result for India, PV Sindhu has defeated the number 3 seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-19 21-23 21-13 in the opening round of the Korea Open Superseries on Wednesday.

The opening game proved to be an absolutely nail-biting affair as both players went toe-to-toe from the outset, exchanging leads at constant intervals from the 5-5 mark. But the Indian managed to hold her nerve at the 19-19 mark, gaining the game point first before converting it in the next attempt to take an important lead in the match.

The second game saw both players win 4 out of the first 8 points each before Intanon took the lead, winning 3 straight points to go 7-4 up. But Sindhu fought back very well to first level the scores and then took the lead by winning 3 points of her own to go 10-7 up. It was a topsy-turvy affair after that until the 15-15 mark, where on in, the Indian assumed control of proceedings, winning 5 points straight to got 20-15 up. But there was twist still left in the tale as Intanon fought back very well to win 5 points straight to level scores at 20-20.

After both players won a point each, it was Intanon’s turn to hold her nerve and clinch the game 23-21 in her favour and take the match into a decider.

The deciding game went in the favour of the Indian from the 7-7 mark as she put enormous pressure on the number 3, winning points at a stretch to take the game 21-13 and move into the second round of the competition.

This win will certainly come as a big boost for the Indian who has been struggling for form ever since returning from injury in April and she will hope to continue her good form moving ahead into the competition.
