2015 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold: PV Sindhu through to the semifinals

PV Sindhu put forth a good performance

India’s PV Sindhu progressed through to the semi-finals of the Macau Open Grand Prix gold after beating Chen Yufei of China 21-13 18-21 21-14 in the quarterfinal stage of the competition on Friday.

The opening game saw the Indian take control of proceedings early on as she raced away to an 8-1 lead but her opponent staged a fine comeback to win the next 6 points consecutively to reduce the deficit to 1. But Sindhu restored the momentum in her favour soon enough after that, winning 6 out of the next 7 points to take a 14-8 lead. She would eventually close the game down 21-13 and take a decisive advantage in the match.

The second game saw Yufei make a strong comeback into the contest, as she took a 5-2 early lead before Sindhu made it 5-5. But at the 6-6 mark, Yufei started to peg away with the points, even as Sindhu tried her best to not lead escalate. The unseeded Chinese eventually sealed the game 21-18 to take the match into a decider.

The deciding game saw a total domination from the Indian as she raced away with the contest from the word go, leading 11-5 at the interval mark and then further carrying the momentum after the break to seal the game 21-14 and move into the last 4 of the competition.

She will face the winner of the match between Sayaka Sato and Akane Yamaguchi in the semis.
