2016 Canada Open Final: Preview: Sai Praneeth vs Lee Hyun II: Venue, match timings

Sai Praneeth in action

At the start of the week, all eyes were on the pairing of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, who were the defending champions in the Women's Doubles category, at the Canada Open in Calgary.

But at the end of 6 days of action, a surprise awaits, particularly in the Men’s Singles section. 23-year-old Sai Praneeth, who had already created the buzz in March earlier this year, when he beat Lee Chong Wei at the All England Championships reached the finals of the competition.

Seeded fourth in this competition, The Indian went past some past good competitors, that included Raul Must, seeded 8th in the competition, and then in the semifinal showed great composure to clinch the tie in three games and enter the last two stage of the competition.

In the final, the Indian will be up against Lee Hyun II of Korea, an opponent who completely made a mockery of his semifinal against Ajay Jayaram, defeating the Indian 21-9 21-8 to book his spot in the final.

The two have met just once in the past, at the Malaysian Open in 2015, where the Korean prevailed in straight games. The Indian will hope that in the finale in Calgary on Sunday, he can reverse the trend and get one back on this opponent.
