Can Ajay Jayaram continue his good run at the Denmark Open?

Ajay Jayaram in action

After successfully defending his crown at the Dutch Open Grand Prix on Sunday, India’s Ajay Jayaram will now look to make it big at the next immediate competition- the Denmark Open Superseries Premier.

But prior to entering the main draw, the 28-year-old shuttler will have to progress through the qualifying round, where he will face Fabian Roth of Germany, an opponent he overcame in Almere en route to his victory, in the opening round in three games.

It has been a dream last 30 days for the Chennai-born shuttler where he has reached the finals of the Korea Open Superseries, defeating the likes of Viktor Axelson and Chou Tien Chen in the second round and the semifinals respectively and eventually finishing second-best to World No.1 Chen Long in the final.

The performance led to him entering the top 25 in the Men’s Singles rankings and also led to murmurs of him finding his name in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme(TOPS). Now whether his name will be added to the selected group of athletes is still unsure, but Jayaram has made his chances of making the cut no harm by winning the title on Sunday.

Apart from enhancing his own confidence, Jayaram’s performance also augurs well for the Indian Men’s Singles contingent. With the likes of Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth in the Top 10, one can hope Jayaram’s performance acts as a catalyst and leads to the other two and many others to do well in the upcoming events.
