Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal won her second title of the year as she beat Spaniard Carolina Marin in straight games 21-18, 21-11 in the $750,000 Australian Open Super Series final on Sunday.

The Hyderabadi got off to a good start in the first game and never looked back as she took it 21-18. Saina was tentative in the beginning of the second game, but she overcame all jitters to lead 11-4 in the interval. She eventually prevailed to win it 21-11.

Saina had reached the finals after a marathon effort against her long-time Chinese rival Wang Shixian in the semi-finals. She had won 21-19, 16-21, 21-15. Carolina was appearing in her first Badminton World Federation (BWF) final after getting past Japan’s Yui Hashimoto 21-17, 21-16 in the last four.

Saina’s last appearance in a BWF World Series final came at the French Open in 2012. She has been struggling for form off late and her only win this year came at the Indian Grand Prix.

With only a few weeks left for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, her return to form augurs well for Indian fans.
