Badminton Asia Championships 2016: Can a strong India raise their games and perform?

Saina Nehwal will be playing her 1st competition since the Malaysia Super series

A 11-member Indian contingent will take to the courts at the Badminton Asia Championships 2016 in Wuhan, China, starting on Tuesday. Kidambi Srikanth, who missed last year’s event, will be the sole Indian Men’s Singles contender at the event.

The World No.13 hasn’t had the best of times in 2016, particularly since he won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold and will look to put in a good performance against some of the best players in the world.

The Women’s Singles will see the return of Saina Nehwal to competitive badminton after a gap of 17 days, and PV Sindhu carry the Indian hopes. The former has entered the semifinals of each of the last 3 events that she has taken part in while the latter will come into the event after a quartefinal finish at the China Masters.

India will have two Men’s Doubles pairs at the event with Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy and Akshay Dewalkar and Pranaav Jerry Chopra both looking to establish themselves as India’s best doubles pair.

Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, who have been choosy in their tournamemts, will also look to do well in the tournamemt, that is likely to have some top Women’s Doubles pairs.

Arun Vishnu and Aparan Balan will round-off the Indian challenge, in the Mixed Doubles category.
