Hoping for a good result from my doping verdict: Lee Chong Wei

Lee Chong Wei has to wait for a further three weeks for the verdict of his doping hearing

On returning to Malaysia on Monday, Former World No.1 Lee Chong Wei said that he still needs to wait for a further three weeks to await the verdict for his doping hearing.

The 32-year-old faced a three-member Badminton World Federation(BWF) panel in Amsterdam on Saturday after he tested positive for the banned anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone during the World Championships held in August.

"I have cooled down a bit since the hearing. I had waited six months for it and now all we have to do is wait another three weeks for the result," he told reporters on Monday.

“Obviously, I am hoping for a good result. I am quite happy with our lawyer as he gave a clear and detailed presentation. I cannot say more than that, we will just have to wait for the panel to decide,” he added.

If found guilty, he could be banned for two years which could probably bring the curtains down on his career.

Determined to qualify for the Rio Games: Lee

Lee had hoped that the panel would provide the verdict immediately and added that he is determined to qualify for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

"If the panel takes three weeks to decide, my hopes of competing are over. But it is alright if I do not make it to these two tournaments.

“I am more determined to make a comeback to qualify for next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,” he said.
