World No. 3 Kidambi Srikanth knocked out of the 2015 Indonesia Open

Kidambi Srikanth lost his match in three games

India were dented a big blow at the 2015 Indonesia Open on Thursday after World No.3 Kidambi Srikanth was ousted in the second round of the competition by the 166th ranked Githing Anthony of Indonesia 14-21 22-20 21-13 in just under an hour.

The highest ranked Indian men’s badminton player began the match on a positive note, racing to an early 3-0 lead and then further piling up the pressure on his Indonesian opponent by winning 4 consecutive points to take a 13-7 lead and despite Anthony trying to make a comeback, he couldn't do so and Srikanth clinched Game 1 21014.

The second game proved to be an absolute nailbiter but what gave Anthony the critical edge were the 3 straight points he won that helped go from being 11-9 up to 14-9 up and even though, Srikanth tried to pull the momentum back constantly after that, Anthony continued to peg him back at each step and final surge in points at the dying stages of the game, helped him seal the game 22-20 and take the match into a decider.

The decider began on a close note once again, with both players pegging one another back constantly, but Srikanth gave away the key advantage, when the match was keenly poised at 10-10 in the Indonesian’s favour, by dropping the next 8 points on the trot to make it 18-10 in his favour and making it a totally lop-sided contest. There was no coming back for the Indian after that as he lost the match and bowed out of the tournament.
