India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap retained last week’s ranking of 10th in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.

It may be worth recalling that the country’s highest-ranked men’s singles shuttler had been eliminated in the first round of the Djaram Indonesian Open to Japan’s world number 19 Sho Sasaki 7-21, 8-21.

Kashyap’s best recent performance this year has been a quarterfinal finish in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships.

India’s badminton icon Saina Nehwal continues to cling on to her world number two ranking in the women’s singles category. Saina bowed out in the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open and is currently playing in the Djaram Indonesian Open.

PV Sindhu, who won the Yonex Malaysian Open – her maiden senior singles crown – and later opted out of the Djaram Indonesian Open, retained last week’s number 11 ranking.

Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt moved up two spots to continue to be the country’s second highest ranked men’s singles shuttler after Parupalli Kashyap at 23rd.

Ajay Jayaram, who reached the quarterfinals of the Sunrise Indian Open and the Skycity New Zealand Open earlier in the year, advanced three places to occupy the 28th spot.

Anand Pawar climbed three spots to be ranked 38th. It may be pertinent to mention that he had reached the semifinal of the Yonex Indian Open, where he lost to Japan’s Kenchi Tago.

However, Sourabh Varma was the lone shuttler in the top-50 bracket to slip – he dropped five places to occupy the 42nd position.

K Srikanth, who won his maiden singles crown last week – cornering glory at the Thailand Open, moved up seventeen spots to be ranked 44th.

HS Pranoy, who reached the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open, moved up twelve spots to be placed 53rd.

B Sai Praneeth fell six places to occupy the 61st spot.

Arvind Bhat dropped one spot to be placed 70th.

Old warhorse Chetan Anand, who reached the semifinals of the Maldives international tournament, moved up eleven spots to be ranked 77.

Anup Sridhar advanced twelve spots to be ranked 109th.

Among the other Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane, whose best performance this year has been a semifinal finish at the recent Polish Open, advanced fourteen spots to be ranked 61st.

PC Thulsai, another semifinalist at the Polish Open, also jumped six places to be ranked 80th.

Tanvi Lad also climbed five placed to be perched at 84th position.
