Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy move into the finals of the US Open Grand Prix Gold

Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy progressed through to the final

There was some joy for India in the Men’s Doubles category as the pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy moved into the finals of the US Open Grand Prix Gold by beating the Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda 21-17 21-17 in the semifinals on Saturday.

Game 1 saw the Indian pair take consistent leads and they took the first big step in winning the game when they won 4 points on the trot to goo from being 9-5 up to 13-5 up and although, the Japanese pair tried to make a comeback into the game, it didn't prove to be enough as Attri and Reddy won the opening game 21-17.

The second game proved to be a lot closer affair and the Japanese pair took the lead at the 6-6 mark, by winning 4 points on the trot to go 10-6 up. But the Indian pair made a quick comeback to win 8 out of the next 12 points to make it 14-14. Unlike the last time, it was the Indian pair who broke the deadlock this time around, to first win 2 points straight on 3 occasions to eventually win the game 21-17 and move into the finals.

They will now take on Junhui Li and Yuchen Liu of Japan in the summit clash.
