India’s Manu Attri and B..Sumeeth Reddy progressed through to the second round of the 2015 US Open Grand Prix Gold with a 21-16 21-9 win over their fellow countrymen K.Dilshad and Tarun Kona in the first round in just 21 minutes.
Game 1 saw both players tied at 3-3 after 6 points, but it was the pair of Attri and Reddy, who took the lead, winning 3 straight points on the trot to go 7-4 up. The pair of Dilshad and Kona, fresh from their 2 successive victories in the qualification stage, then brought the game back on an even keel at 8-8 and then further took the lead, by winning 3 points on the trot to go 11-8 up.
But the critical turn in the game came at the 13-13 mark when Attri and Reddy won 5 straight points to take the game away from their opponents and eventually sealed it in their favour 21-16.
The second game proved to an extremely one-sided affair as Attri and Reddy took the confidence of the first game, to win as many 6 streaks of consecutive points at different intervals to take home the game and the match in straight games and move into the second round.
They will now face the Japanese pair of Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata in the second round.
