World No. 11 and top-seeded P.V. Sindhu won the championship match as she defeated the World No. 30 Canadian shuttler Li Michelle 21-15, 21-12 in the final of the Kumpoo Macau Open Grand Prix Gold 2013. This was the first ever encounter between the two players.

Sindhu, who won the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold title in May and the bronze medal at the World Championships in August, defeated the 7th-seeded Canadian player in a completely one-sided match which lasted for 37 minutes.

The 22-year-old Canadian shuttler, who stunned the 3rd seeded Hong Kong shuttler Pui Yin Yip in the semifinals, was absolutely no match for her higher ranked opponent as she completely surrendered in both the games.

Sindhu’s start to the match was outstanding as she took a strong seven-point lead in the first game. This lead proved to be very crucial for the young Indian shuttler as she managed to keep this lead till the end and won the opening game with ease with a score of 21-15.

The second game started on a positive note for both the players as they fought hard for each and every point. But when the score was 6-6, Sindhu changed gears and completely outclassed her opponent as she won the next eight points in a row to take the score to 14-8.

After that the Canadian ace tried to make a comeback in the match, but her efforts were not good enough as she lost the game 21-12 and hence, the match.
