P.V. Sindhu - Indian badminton's next big star

After winning her maiden level three title yesterday, the Malaysia Open, it is up to PV Sindhu to take this achievement in an objective manner. The fragrance of her maiden victory is in the air. It’s a title earned through all-out efforts and impeccable skills. She has got to go a very long way, as this glorious journey has just begun. For now, hearty congratulations to Sindhu – we are all proud of you.

We have seen a number of other players arising, for instance Saina Nehwal, P Kashyap, etc. But the case of PV Sindhu is the most thrilling for one simple reason – she’s achieved so much, so quickly and so quietly. Badminton Asia Youth Under 19 title, reaching the semis of Indian open, elevating to a world ranking of 13th and most importantly, keeping the expectations of enthusiastic fans fulfilled with the title of Malaysian Open. I honestly admit, that prior to appearance in the Indian Open this year, not many knew much about this dedicated youngster, P.V. Sindhu. Most of her supporters started tracking her when she came into the limelight this season and other Indians were not performing up to the mark.

But then it became the matter of interest for one and all, when media started highlighting this pleasant fact, that another upcoming 17-year-old girl from Hyderabad has shown great potential and commitment for the game. This is a common phenomenon with the Indian fans that we tend to follow any upcoming sportsperson whenever we notice a spark in them. We frame an opinion when we see them playing and doing reasonably good, and once someone appears to be outshining the scale of expectations, then we simply put our stake on that person blindly.

Even yesterday, knowing the fact that the Malaysian event was not really treated as a big one, there were no chances of live coverage on TV, and not even ample media coverage. We were dying to see the final, and in a desperate attempt to see P.V. Sindhu playing, thankfully and fortunately we could follow shot by shot live commentary online (Much obliged to those who made it possible). As expected, we witnessed a very interesting and close contest.

Online comments showed huge concern from everybody watching that this event had vital importance on her career. This is a kind of love and affection showered on the sincere P.V. Sindhu.

As I have already talked about in a few of my earlier articles, the determination of P. V. Sindhu is amazing. But here I am tempted to say that she appears to be no hype, low profile player and her attitude, down to earth approach and intense fighting spirit will lead her to new heights in Indian badminton.

It is the beginning of a new chapter and P.V. Sindhu is hopefully going to be there for a long time with lots of records to her name.

I strongly believe that she is going to be a perfect role model for a lot of youngsters. I definitely see a champion emerging.

Feel inspired? Me too!
