RMV Gurusaidutt, Ashwini Ponnappa off to winning starts at the Australian Open

RMV Gurusaidutt clinched his opening round match in 19 minutes

In a match that lasted for 29 minutes, India’s RMV Gurusaidutt got his qualification campaign off to a bright start after securing a straight games win over Wei Jian Al of Malaysia in the opening round of the men’s singles qualification of the 2015 Australian Open.

The Indian won 5 consecutive points as compared to his Malaysian’s opponent’s 3 and also converted the solitary game point that came by his way. The second game proved to be a much easier affair for the Indian as he won as many as 10 points on the trot to take the game 21-9 and the match and progress through to the next round.

Ponnappa, Chopra also emerge victorious

In some more encouraging news for India, the Indian mixed doubles pairing of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Ashwini Ponnappa defeated the Australian pairing of Cham Chen and Susan Wang in straight games 21-14 21-6 in the first round of the mixed doubles qualification in a match that spanned for just 19 minutes.

The opening game saw the Indian duo win 5 points on the trot as compared to their opponent's 3 and they also converted the lone instance where they secured a game point to clinch the game 21-14.

The second game, though, proved to be a much more one-sided affair as the Indian pairing carried the confidence of the opening game win, to win the second game 21-6 to start their qualification round on a positive note.
