Saina Nehwal cruises into All England Badminton Championship final

Nehwal has been in relative ease throughout the tournament

Saina Nehwal has booked a spot in the final of the All England Badminton Championship, defeating un-seeded Chinese opponent Sun Yu, 21-13 21-13. The 24-year-old won the game with relative ease, after going behind early in each set.

Sun won the initial points to race to a comfortable 6-1 lead, but by the interval of the first set Saina had clawed herself back to cut Sun’s lead to just 1 point at 10-11. It was smooth sailing from there for the World No. 3 as Sun just won two more points. Saina would eventually win the set 21-13.

Similar to the first set, Sun took a early lead, only for Saina to claw back. Again at the break it was Sun who was leading at 11-9, but an ankle injury to Sun saw her game drop. Saina was in cruise control after that as she comfortably played the shuttle around the court.

In the final, the Indian will face reigning world champion Carolina Marin of Spain, who defeated Tai Tzu Ying 21-18, 21-11 in the other semifinal. Saina will go into that match with confidence, as she leads the head-to-head against Marin 3-0.
