Saina Nehwal has donated Rs. 2 Lakh for the Chennai flood victims.

In a deeply moving and humanitarian effort, India’s numero uno shuttler, Saina Nehwal has donated Rs. 2 Lakh for the victims of the devastating floods that have hit Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai, over the past two weeks. "Saina would like to donate Rs 2 lakh to the victims of rains in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. I am going to make it happen," Saina's father Harvir Singh said.

Torrential rains in Chennai and the neighbouring areas have tormented the lives of the inhabitants, with several of them stranded in their homes devoid of food, water or electricity. The Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi visited Chennai and took an air-borne inspection of the flood-hit areas yesterday and has also released 1000 Cr for the rehabilitation.

Nehwal has been training in Bengaluru for the upcoming tournament in Dubai, where she has also been nominated for the Women Player of the Year Award by the Badminton World Federation(BWF). The awards will be handed out on December 7.

Chennai has been reeling under the shortage of adequate facilities and basic necessaties such as medicines, clothes, drinking water etc. and the Armed Forces have been deployed in the relief and rehabilitaion work. The Indian Air Force has been dropping food packages to the residents in the flood-hit areas.

In the wake of such events, the former no.1 shuttler’s attempts to bring relief to the needy comes in as a brilliant initiative.
