Star Indian shuttler and World No.9 Saina Nehwal was dumped out of the Yonex-Sunrise India Open Superseries at the quarterfinal stage by former World Champion and current World number 2 from China, Wang Yihan.

Chinese third seed Wang needed only 39 minutes to beat the eighth seeded Saina – who lost in straight games 16-21, 14-21.

The 23-year-old Indian shuttler, who had defeated the Chinese player just once in their previous 8 meetings, started the match on a bad note as she trailed by three points in the early part of the first game.

From 10-9,Wang reeled off four points in quick succession to take a huge lead of five points. Saina however, fought her way back into the game as she won the next three points in a row to shorten the lead, but the Olympic silver medalist was in no mood to make the game any more interesting as she grabbed the next four points in no time to further increase her lead and eventually sealing the opening game 21-16.

The second game was a totally one-sided affair as Saina was completely outplayed by her Chinese opponent in almost all aspects of the game.

After taking the initial lead, Wang simply kept on moving ahead and opened up a massive gap. From 12-9 onwards, Wang won the next seven points to take her lead into double figures.

The Indian tried clawing back by negating four match points, but her effort just wasn’t enough as Wang clinched victory on the fifth match point to pocket the second game and the match.

Saina will next play the Singapore Open which begins on 8th April in Singapore City. Apart from Saina, other top Indian shuttlers like P.V. Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap and Jwala Gutta will also be participating in this third Superseries event of the year.
