Saina Nehwal opts out of 2016 Singapore Open

Saina Nehwal has shown signs of returning to her best

After a hectic two months, where she has competed in 4 competitions, across Europe and Asia, Saina Nehwal has decided to skip the Singapore Open, starting on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who has fallen short at the semifinals stage in the last 4 competitions, has endured a tough last 6 months, with injuries hampering her performance, but showed glimpses of attaining prime fitness at the India and Malaysia Open earlier this month.

Confirming her non-availability for the competition, Saina's father Dr. Harvir Singh Nehwal said that the World No.8 shuttler wanted some rest and added that she was perfectly fit right now.

"She is perfectly alright. In fact, she is playing well now.

"She wanted to take rest after the four tournaments. After the semi-final she decided to skip Singapore as she needs more practice," he said.

Saina will next be seen in action at the Badminton Asia Championships that begins on April 26th. Incidentally, this is second consecutive year that the Indian has pulled out of this event. She had suffered an opening round exit in the 2014 edition of the competition.

In her absence, it would now be PV Sindhu, who will spearhead the Womens Singles challenge at the competition.
